Iyengar Yoga Teacher Training
Our Iyengar Yoga Teacher Training course is for students who have already established a consistent class-based practice and are ready to work more deliberately over time.
The course is designed to sit alongside regular class attendance, adding areas of study that support deeper understanding, greater independence in practice, and - where appropriate - the gradual development of teaching skills. Some participants may be interested in preparing to teach within the Iyengar method, while others may be primarily focused on enriching and stabilising their own practice. Both approaches are supported within the structure of the course.
Focus of study
The course runs as a ten-month, cyclical program, with one four-hour session each month. Each session includes:
Two hours of theory and discussion
Two hours of guided practice
The content is structured so that each month stands on its own, allowing students to join the course at any point during the year. Over time, the full cycle of study areas is revisited and deepened across multiple years of participation.
Theory component (2 hours per session)
The theory sessions introduce and revisit key areas that underpin both long-term practice development and preparation for teaching. Topics are approached practically and experientially, always in relation to what students are already doing in class and on the mat. These include:
The principles and method of Iyengar Yoga
Study of core asana material, and how structured practice supports understanding
Yoga philosophy, as it relates to discipline, effort, and understanding
Basic anatomy, applied directly to asana and safety
Sequencing principles for practice and teaching
Observation skills — learning to see oneself and others more clearly
An introduction to pranayama, including readiness and scope
Sanskrit, supporting clarity around asana names and meaning
Working appropriately with common conditions and pregnancy
Understanding pathways for continued study and, where relevant, assessment
These areas are revisited cyclically rather than taught in a strict sequence, recognising that understanding develops gradually through repeated exposure and application.
Practice component (2 hours per session)
The practice sessions alternate each month between two complementary formats:
Practice-based sessions, focused on working with a defined practice sequence as a tool for refining clarity, stamina, sequencing intelligence, and self-observation
Teaching-based sessions, centred on mock teaching, short teaching segments, observation, and feedback (for those pursuing the teaching pathway)
This alternation allows practice-focused students to continue developing without pressure to teach every month, while also providing regular opportunities for those interested in teaching to gain experience and confidence. Over time, students come to see how teaching and practice inform one another.
Prerequisites
Participants must have been attending the school regularly for a minimum of six months on a Silver (or higher-tier) membership. This period of consistent study supports the development of sincerity and continuity of practice, and allows a working relationship between teacher and student to be established before taking on greater responsibility.
Course structure
The course runs one Saturday afternoon each month, with each session running from 12:00–4:00pm. Sessions are held on the third Saturday of each month, from February to November 2026. Time between sessions supports regular class attendance, self-practice, and, where appropriate, class observation and assisting.

Course fee
The course fee is $200 per month.
This fee covers not only the four-hour monthly session, but also the ongoing work that supports students’ development over time. This includes mentoring, review of submitted work, and guidance around class observation and assisting, where appropriate. These elements form an important part of the learning process and extend beyond the monthly contact hours.
Please note that the course fee does not include regular class attendance, which remains a separate commitment and requirement for participation in the program.
Who this course is for
This course is intended for students who are ready to take greater responsibility for their practice through sustained study over time. It supports those preparing to present for teaching assessment, as well as practitioners who wish to work more deeply, steadily, and independently within the Iyengar tradition.
